I was interested in other classmates’ blogs so I read through several and commented on their action plans. It was interesting to read through the various action plans and evaluate if any aspects of their plans could also help in implementing my plan. I decided to thoroughly read other classmate’s action plans to determine how others were evaluating data and what forms of communication were being used. One of the action plans included a book study. I thought this was important because the point of action research is to incorporate the learning into our own situations. School leaders are to use current educational research to make improvements and understand the circumstances of the campus problem. I would like to include to current research and continuous learning in my action plan. Teachers, parents, and administrators would benefit by understanding what research says about why student misbehave or what actions are proven to keep students behaving in a positive manner.
I posted in the course discussion board what I anticipated to be challenges in my action plan. Several students gave constructive comments on how to narrow down my topic, how to evaluate progress, and how to choose a smaller group of sample students. One helpful comment stated that rather than assess all the teachers and question their consistency, I could use the group of teachers utilizing the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies in their classroom. Those students can be compared to classes that are not using the PBS strategies for classroom discipline management to determine if the PBS initiative is effective. Another comment mentioned that I could evaluate progress by observing the teachers who are implementing the PBS initiative. PBS occurs in all common areas and in the classrooms so it would be easy to observe teachers in the hallways, cafeteria, and library. I could also participate in unscheduled classroom walkthroughs to check the consistency of the classes who are participating in the initiative. My C.A.R.E model included in the previous assignment will be changed slightly now that I have met with my administrator and gathered helpful comments from classmates. As instructed, these revisions will be included in my final action plan.
